Lessons from Luke 13:10- 16

ImageAnd he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.

And behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman thou are loosed from thy infirmity.

And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed and not on the Sabbath day.

The Lord then answered him, and said Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

And ought  not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, Whom Satan hath bound, lo these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?

 (1) Jesus taught and demonstrated that healing was and is the will of God.

Some people question if there is a God that cares enough to heal them of their afflictions, Jesus answers these question and others by saying, “I am the will of God in human form. Whatever Jesus said or did was the expression of the will of God. (Matt 4:23-25).

 (2) Jesus emphasized that sickness, disease and sin were satanic bondages

Some people question if there is a devil, Jesus said, ‘yes there is’ and he is more active today than you care to think.

Acts 10:38 says, ‘Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power and he went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil.

 (3) Jesus showed us that there is a connection between the word of God and the manifestation of God’s power to heal. (Luke 5:17.)

When the word of God is preached on any subject, there is a corresponding manifestation of His power to confirm that word in the lives of those who will believe and act on it. (Hebrews 4:2)

 (4) Jesus demonstrated a number of ways by which the oppressed could be delivered.

In this case, he laid hands on her and commanded her deliverance from the chain of satanic bondages.

 (5) Jesus showed us that for God’s covenant people healing was a ‘right’ they could expect to claim.

He said ‘ought not this woman being daughter of Abraham be set free from her bonds this Sabbath day? Everyone who has put his/her faith in Jesus is a partaker of God’s eternal covenant in Abraham. Every child of the covenant has a ‘right’ to healing.

Healing is the children’s bread – Math 15:16.

 (6) The result shows that healing glorifies God

Friend, God does not make you sick for His ‘glory’ God is glorified in your deliverance not in your sickness, some people say they are suffering for ‘Christ’s sake, Christ has suffered for you so you can be free.
